Who are we?

Welcome to the Nanoscale Biophysics group at the Department of Physics, IISc Bangalore. We work at the interface of Physics and Biology to develop a molecular understanding of cellular decision making processes. For example, to protect us against infections and diseases, the cells in the immune system constantly monitor their environments and make decisions (e.g. attack or no attack) based on the gathered information. Amazingly, many of the underlying biological decision making processes have a physical origin, which allows us to apply modern Physics frameworks, such as Active Matter Physics, to understand these biological problems. In return, we often encounter physical phenomena that requires development of completely new paradigms of Physics. The symbiotic relationship between Physics and Biology drives research in our group.

A major focus of our group is to provide theoretical understanding of biological processes that can be tested through experiments. Hence, experimental and clinical collaboration plays a pivotal role in our research and we always welcome potential collaborations. To learn more about our research and contributions, please visit the Research and the Publication pages.

We strive to create and foster an environment free of discrimination of any form. A main goal of our group is to increase diversity in academia and industry. To that end,  our group will actively try to recruit and train people from underrepresented groups in academia.
