In this paper, using simulation and theory, I show that diffusion-limited reaction rates on 2D surfaces depend nontrivially on the concentration of the reactants and that the concentration dependence has nontrivial consequences on the steady state properties of nonequilibrium chemical systems. For example, in the presence of concentration dependent reaction rates oscillations predicted to be otherwise stable become unstable. In particular, through analytical calculations, I have shown that in Lotka-Volterra predator-prey systems robust oscillation becomes fine-tuned to the parameter values in the presence of concentration dependent rates.
